# Baileywiki Better Levels 1.13.0 **Any battlemap can now have levels, not just the ones designed for them.** Draw a region over artwork that is already painted into a map (a bridge, catwalk, awning, or cave mouth) and tokens traveling underneath vanish behind it, exactly as if an overhead tile covered them. No tile needed, and none is added. Anyone who can genuinely see under there still sees a ghost of the token; everyone else sees nothing. This turns a whole category of maps into levels maps with no art surgery. ## Edit region shapes point by point Foundry has no built-in way to move, add, or delete an individual vertex of a region polygon: until now the only way to reshape a drawn region was to delete it and draw it again. Better Levels adds real per-vertex editing. Select a polygon region with the Regions layer's Select tool and every vertex gets a handle: - Drag a point to move it. - Right-click a point to delete it (its neighbors join with a straight line). - Drag an edge midpoint to insert a new point there. - Hold Shift while dragging to bypass grid snapping. This makes it easy to tune a Faux Overhead, Define Surface, or stair region so its outline hugs the underlying map art exactly. On by default (a GM tool, hidden from players); toggle it under "Edit region points on the canvas" in settings. ## Faux Overhead A new region behavior that conceals tokens beneath painted-in overhead art. Key points: - **Per-client display of concealed tokens**: nothing, a faded ghost, the hitbox only, or the token as normal. Each player and the GM pick their own, so a GM can keep track of a token their players cannot see. - **Per-region concealment override**, so the scene builder can make a solid stone bridge hide a token outright even for a player who prefers ghosts, or a slatted catwalk show hitboxes. Line of sight always wins: a token you can truly see ghosts rather than vanishing. - **Partial occlusion is standard**: a token straddling the edge of an overhead is clipped at that edge, so the part sticking out still shows, instead of the whole token popping in or out. - Concealed tokens hide their nameplate, bars, and elevation badge, and cannot be targeted by someone who cannot see them. - **Keep this area lit through fog of war**, so a walled interior under an overhead reads at the map's brightness instead of a black hole (holes in the region stay dark). - **Make Surface** gives an overhead a full sight-blocking surface so tokens above and below cannot see through it. - **Occlude light like a roof**, so a torch under a bridge stops lighting the deck above (mutually exclusive with Keep Lit; the two are offered as a single choice). - **Faux Overhead defaults dialog**: set the draw-time options once and every new overhead inherits them, plus "apply to selected" for existing regions. ## One-click building tools - **Fill a walled area with a Faux Overhead**: select the enclosing walls, or just click inside a tent, hut, or alcove, and Better Levels traces the space, places the overhead on the level above, and names and tags it. - **A Create menu** on the helper panel for Stairs, Faux Overhead fill, and Faux Overhead draw, with a persistent on-screen hint and a clear exit (Escape or double right-click). Each drawing makes its own region. - The toolbar is consolidated to a single Better Levels group. ## Native roof features (Better Roofs no longer required) - **Fog-of-war reveal is now native.** Roof tiles reveal the area beneath them without the Better Roofs dependency, with a "Reveal fog of war" checkbox in the tile's Overhead tab. - **Occlusion linking is native too**: tiles sharing an Occlusion Link Id fade together, and a Source tile broadcasts its state, so a multi-tile roof fades as one piece. - Existing scenes carry their old Better Roofs settings over automatically, and the long-standing "modify the same functionality" load warning is gone. ## Level Manager - **Per-level backgrounds** with a new BG column showing whether each level paints its own image, is showing another level's, or is just a color, and a single modal to set image or color. Deliberately shared artwork is respected by the audit. ## Fixed and hardened - Hardened the Placeables tile-thumbnail list against a freeze some users hit when opening the Tiles tab. - A failure building our toolbar buttons can no longer remove other modules' tools. - Numerous concealment, targeting, and rendering refinements so hidden tokens stay hidden and revealed tokens read correctly.
